How Acting in Love could have Saved Kenya

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails."

When the word LOVE is mentioned, what comes into your head or rather your mind? Do you imagine those you love - not bad or do you begin to ask yourself whether somebody loves you - not bad too. Whatever the case we should love one another.

If only we would have acted in love even after the elections - there would be nothing as POST ELECTION VIOLENCE! When I say that, i know i have already put some people off. But dear reader, if we look at love as described in the verse above my statement cannot be further from the truth.

We have had all sorts of excuses regarding the election and even justified the violence which followed later. But if we would have acted in love, the issue would have been solved without violence and here it goes:-

1. If our duly elected president Hon. Mwai Kibaki would have acted in love, he would have conceded defeat - if he was ever defeated that is- and matters would have rested from there, may be? (Love does not rejoice in evil but rejoices with the truth).

2. Since he did not concede defeat, he would still have acted in love when the violence sprung up by stepping down just to save the situation with a statement like, dear Kenyans even though I won I have decided to act in love for my nation and people and is hereby stepping down. (Love is not self-seeking) Things would have also calmed down. This applies to both Kibaki and Raila.

I am talking mainly of the President not because I justify Raila but because he is the one who held the key to our problems all along and this was proven when he signed the peace deal. It was a sigh of relief from all corners including those who had been publicly against the Grand coalition.

Back to importance of love, even the common mwananchi would have played a big role, infact the biggest role if they would have acted in love. I mean, by acting in love there would have been no violence at al (because if you act in love when you see your neighbour you see yourself) Love is not easily angered. And it was the anger from the stolen election that made us do all that we did - that is what we have always said.

So my brothers and sisters we have sinned by not acting in love during the Post-Election Violence and even before. But it is not too late we can still ask for forgiveness from God and act in love. When love prevails there will be no tribalism, no hatred, no evils - we will have the best Kenya that will be an example to the whole world.
